A dam in Paphos Cyprus overflowed last week following the best rainfall for four years. The Mavrokolymbos Dam overflowed. The agricultural minister has also just released instructions allowing for the relaxation of the water restictions in Cyprus.

The ammounts of money spent on advertising as reported are as follows. No suprises that the UK is prime contender and leads the table with advertising in UK reaching 2.7 million Euros in 2008. This reflects the fact that over 50 % of the tourists last year came from UK. Russia commands an equal advertising expense. The UK tourist contributed most last year as the prime visitor with over 50%, of the total visitors, hence the most advertising within the UK.

Cyprus and Russia have set up new Tourism procedures to promote tourism. This included a simplification of Russian entry proceedures in relation to Russian visitors into Cyprus. A working party has been proposed at a recent meeting chaired by the Russian Ministry Of Tourism along with the Cyprus Tourism Organisation and the Ministry Of Commerce

Early Tuesday morning police conducted an operation aimed at Illegal Immigrants in Cyprus , more so in the capital Nicosia. The operation came about mainly because of recent fighting within Nicosia. The operation rounded up 150 migrants ,of which 55 were found to be illegal

A report by RICS reports a static Cyprus Property Market and that the Boom time is over. The Real estate agents also report a 40 sales reduction for coastal properties. RICS also reported that Property Registrations between Oct 07 and Oct 08 were 24 % down. However housing build levels still remain high.

A plan has been drawn up by the Ministry of Commerce Industry and Tourism to counteract the Global current financial effects upon Cyprus. The plan involves seminars and exhibitions. The plan involves promoting Cyprus as a regional service centre based on its Geo strategic position and stable banking. The plan also addresses Cyprus Investment and Tourism policies which is tough amidst the Global competition.

The President after another meeting with Turkish Cypriot Leader Mehmet Ali Talat reported that both sides of Cyprus had common interests on the subject of property in Cyprus but the talks on the subject of property have now been suspended by the two leaders. The subect will however be discussed further by George Iacovou and Ozdil Nami and will most likely be brought back to the attention of the two leaders in due course for further discussions.

Anyone living or visiting Cyprus over the last couple of years must have discussed the Water Problem. The Dams approached empty and water has been arriving from Greece via Water Tanker and then subsequent pipeline to Germasogeia Dam in Limassol. This winter season has seen an above average rainfall and therefore the Dams now report a 22 % capacity on average, that said the major Dams are still critical and so the water restrictions will remain in place.

The Southern side that is.
