The ministry of health in Cyprus has announced that at every 2 pm news will be published about the latest news re the Swine Flu epidemic. A website will be also be launched quickly to spread the news. Mr Patsalides , the Minister of health stated that patients could initially be treated in a segregated part of Nicosia Hospital also a Government action plan was already in place. Covert practices are also in action at crossing points into and out of the island.

Cyprus tourism is down. Revenues fell over 12 % in the first quarter. The Cyprus Hotels Association has announced incentives designed to soften the impact. Most tourists come from Scandinavia and the UK and the economic issues have dictated a slowdown in numbers of Tourist arriving in Cyprus. When comparing income generated form Tourists, in the month of March 124.8 million Euros was generated this year compared to 143.2 Euros last march.

The European Union has unveiled plans to reduce the costs of texting across Europe. The current maximum top price is set to fall 3 cents to 43 cents for voice calls out of Country. In Cyprus CYTA is the market leader in telecommunication connectivity with 90 % of the mobile market. Tourists to Cyprus will obviously welcome this news.

Elections in North Cyprus have been won by North Turkish Cypriot Nationalists. This could slow up the re unification process. The Turkish Cypriot Leader Mr Talat saw the right wing National Unity Party take more than 44 % of the votes. More can be read at the turkish weekly newspaper on line

President Christofias stated with refrence to the Cyprus Proplem that he will neither acept tight deadlines nor arbitration and he remined the United Nations Secretary General that it was the responsibility of Cypriots to find a solution to the Cyprus Problem.

President Obama has called for Turkey to be administered into the European Union. Whilst at the conference in Prague , President Obama called for Muslims to be approached as Friends within Europe and all would combat injustices. Nicolas Sarkosi the French Premier stated that Turkey’s admission into Europe was for Europe to decide.

NATO the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation Military alliance of democratic states is now celbrating its 60th aniversary but was also in Cyprus under attack by protestors at the Dhekelia forces base Cyprus . Protesting against NATO itself and the policy of interfering in other countries affairs. The protestors were predominantly made up fromm the Villagers of Pyla who are made up from both Greek and Turkish Cypriots

The House of Representatives has anounced a plan to reduce Value Added Tax on hotels in an effort to reduce the impact of the downturn in Tourism on te island which has dropped around 10 % . Tourists are choosing to visit cheaper destinations.
